Jordan Lee Alleyne
​Donald MacKinlay Memorial Scholarship
Jordan Lee Alleyne is in the second year of her studies in Film and Video production at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. In addition to her earlier community service in Barbados assisting Praise Academy of Dance to develop promotional films and with Youth With A Mission as a mentor, she has created and run a virtual workshop called “The Art of Story Writing”. She is also in the process of conceptualizing a video documentary about emotional, mental and spiritual health during crises, building on her own life experience. Jordan Lee received the Don Mackinlay Scholarship last year

Barbados Canada Foundation Scholarship
​
Dream Tuitt-Barnes is entering her first year of an accelerated 2-year pre-med program at Queens University. This is a rare opportunity earned through her academic achievement of 95% and a place on her high school’s Honor Roll with Distinction. Dream complemented her outstanding academics with founding membership in her school’s Hear My Voice organization, which fosters youth leadership. Her goal is to become a plastic surgeon which she sees as a complementary blending of her skill as an artist and ambition of specializing in reconstructive medicine

Diproinduca Canada Scholarship
​
Kalah Brereton  is entering first year at University of Waterloo for her undergraduate degree in Mathematics. Apart from academic excellence for which she received many awards, Kalah is a rugby player at the national level and an entrepreneur as a tutor and translator. In addition, she has volunteered with Helping Hands Intl., a non-profit organization that supports marginalized and impoverished communities. Kalah wishes to apply her knowledge and skill in helping members of our community achieve economic success by becoming an actuary.

Jaryd Christie
Diproinduca Canada Scholarship
​
Jaryd Christie is enrolled in doctoral studies in Medical Biophysics at Western University under the sponsorship of Diproinduca Canada. Jaryd continues his lab research into developing computer programs that analyze medical images for diagnosis and treatment in lung cancer. He has presented his work at several high profile international, scientific and academic forums, and undertaken to judge and chair presentations at provincial Imaging symposiums. In addition, Jaryd has started a Medical Biophysics Teaching Interest group to help students gain teaching experience. He remains an active advocate for equity, diversity and inclusivity for black students .

Sariah Cumberbatch
Barbados Canada Foundation Scholarship
Sariah Cumberbatch  has already earned an Honours degree in Economics and Finance from UWI. She is beginning studies toward a graduate certificate in International Business Management at Seneca College. While studying at UWI, Sariah led a small team of mentors to promote the basics and importance of financial literacy, social and oral skills, and critical thinking skills as an early education initiative. Upon earning her degree, she  joined a local bank as a Graduate Trainee in the Corporate and Commercial Credit division, learning how to make lending decisions and assess risk before preparing proposals for new investments. She intends to use her graduate knowledge to contribute to the growth of the business sector in Barbados. ​

Jenna Lyn Harris
Gloria Baylis Memorial Scholarship
​
Jenna Lyn Harris entering the fifth and final year of her undergraduate studies in medical Biophysics and Engineering Physics at MacMaster University. Her academic performance has merited a place on the Dean’s list. She is active in the National Society of Black Engineers at MacMaster where she has undertaken progressively responsible roles. Additionally, Jenna is a member of the Macmaster Medical Engineering and Design team and has been instrumental in developing open-source code for a myoelectric prosthetic hand. This fits perfectly with her goal of making prosthetics accessible despite income level so that affected people can navigate the world of the able bodied. Jenna loves to dance and choreograph pieces for annual competition.

Chantal Phillips
Aubrey & Marla Dan Foundation Scholarship
​
Chantal Phillips is entering her final year in Medicine at University of Toronto. Chantal has been engaged in the work of Black Health Alliance, a charity working to improve the health and well-being of the Black population in Canada. She was the Project Manager from October 2020 to July 2021 for the Black COVID Resilience Health Promotion Project, the charity’s response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, which aimed to bring about a more equitable response to the pandemic. Upon graduation she will pursue her interest in public health and preventive medicine.  ​

Veria Walcott
Diproinduca Canada Scholarship
​​Veria Walcott is enrolled in Western University undergraduate degree program in Genetics and molecular studies. She will be including a yearlong internship as well as coursework starting in September with a view to enhancing her laboratory skills in this field. Over the last few years her participation in volunteer and community activities includes being an executive and delegate in Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA), Kiwanis Key Club, and the Debating Society.

Harold M Brathwaite Memorial Scholarship
​Dominque Walker 
is entering her first year in International Studies and Modern Language at University of Ottawa. Dominique ‘found her voice’ in high school advocating on her own behalf and on the behalf of Black her Black peers who were struggling academically. She was also the board representative for the school’s Black Voices Lab and one of the founding students of the International Student Action Network (SAN). SAN was a new initiative set up to empower and organize young activists online when COVID made it difficult to for high school groups to form and meet in person. Dominque ‘s goal is to practice law in the field of Human Rights

Kayla Walker
The John Rollock Memorial Scholarship
Kayla Walker is entering her third year at university of Waterloo studying Economics with a career goal of Market Research Analyst. Actively participating in school and community as a high school student in Barbados, Kayla continues to be an engaged volunteer while she earns her degree. She volunteers with Students Offering Support (SOS) as a tutor where her efforts led to her selection as Tutor of the Month. SOS is a club which helps Latin America in funding education for students. Kayla is also proud that she was selected as an Instructional Assistant in her second year at university – a role which usually goes to the third and fourth-year students

Gloria Baylis Memorial Scholarship
​Nathan Walker is entering first year in Bachelor of Science degree studies at University of Toronto to study Chemical Engineering. An outstanding student at Harrison’s College in Barbados, Nathan was active in his church as a leader in the multimedia component of church services. He was a member of the school’s water polo team which won championships nationally and across the Caribbean ​

The BOCC Scholarship
​
Kayla Weekes is entering her first year of Studies for her Bachelor of Science, majoring in Aviation at Mount Allison University. Her goal is to become a commercial aircraft pilot. An outstanding student while attending Queen’s College, she rounded out her development as a member of the Girl guides. In this role, she participated in fundraising activities for Barbados Cancer Society, and for her high school. She was also a member of the Young Eagles club at the Barbados Light Aeroplane Club, where she was awarded First Officer and Captain of the club pre-covid.
