Shade Edwards
​BCF Scholarship
Shade Edwards is entering University of Ottawa’s Juris Doctor degree program, having completed her BA in Criminology at University of Toronto. Her community activities include volunteering in the YMCA Youth Leadership Development Program and being a youth representative on the York Regional Police Service Task Group. The Task Group was challenged to foster effective working relationships between police and youth. These experiences have sharpened her focus on becoming a human rights lawyer.

Keneca Pingue-Giles
Gloria Baylis Memorial Scholarship
Keneca Pingue Giles is entering year 2 of Juris Doctor studies at York university Osgoode Law School with the goal of becoming a lawyer in the field of Social Justice. She continues to maintain high academic standing at Osgoode Law School in addition to continuing and expanding her focus on social justice. To do so, Keneca became a student advocate at the Fair Change Community Legal Clinic representing clients in provincial court. She is a member of the Black Law Students Association where she mentors other students interested in studying law. She is also a volunteer coach in her church and with MLSE Launchpad which works with individuals from low income households.

Darrien Holder
Donald MacKinlay Memorial Scholarship
Darrien Holder is a graduate of Maxwell Heights Secondary. He will be entering Fleming College in the 2-year Customs and Border Services program. Academically Darrien was on his school’s Honor roll. He uses his strengths to tutor his peers as well as being an active member of Club Carib in Oshawa. He is a steel drum player with multiple band performances to his credit. Darrien volunteered at the Barbados Ball in 2018and continues to apply his skill in soccer and love of the sport as a volunteer coach and player with soccer clubs in Oshawa.

Syenne Holder
Diproinduca Canada Ltd. Scholarship
Syenne Holder will be entering her third year at Carleton University where she is studying Architectural Design.

​Having made the Dean's list based on outstanding academics in her first year, Syenne continued to excel academically in her second year, earning A+  and A- in eight of her 13 second year courses and B or B+ in the others. Syenne continues to be an active volunteer in the community in addition to being a pannist with the Oshawa sounds of Steel and Panatics Steelband Network. Syenne volunteered at the Barbados Ball 2018 in the pre event coordination activities.

Diproinduca Canada Ltd. Scholarship
Chantal completed her first degree at Western making the Dean's Honor list in each of her 4 years of study before graduating with a BSc in Medical Science and Psychology. She is entering her 2nd year of the medical doctor program. Her extracurricular activities include founding the Western Future Black Physicians Association to assist students with med school admission resources as well as the Black Youth in Science Mentorship Program whose focus is on diversity in Medicine and helping black students access previously unattainable opportunities. She is a youth representative on Toronto's Anti-Black Racism Strategy and is also an active advocate for medical students at the provincial level

​​John Rollock Memorial Scholarship
A student at Ryerson University, Hailey Mc Calla is entering her second year in the Business degree program, with a focus on Information Technology. Hailey achieved very high academic scores in her first year. She tutors students from the Jane Finch community at the Jamaican Canadian Association. Additionally, Hailey is a volunteer coordinator of Developing Young Leaders of Tomorrow, Today, a program that focuses on the development of Leadership skills. Hailey also volunteers at her church.
