BCF Scholarships Program
The BCF Scholarships Program provides scholarships to youth of Barbadian heritage pursuing post-secondary education at Canadian universities and colleges, and has granted 79 scholarships valued at $238,000 to date.
Scholarships Available:
Scholarships of $4,000 each are available to students who are, or will be studying for an undergraduate degree, diploma or certificate at a Canadian university or college. Consideration will be given to graduate degree students. The number of scholarships available are determined each year as the total of sponsorship, donation and other fundraising revenue permits.
Eligibility:
You are eligible to apply for a BCF Scholarship if:
a) (1) you are a citizen of Barbados by birth or naturalization; or
(2) at least one of your parents or one of your grandparents is or was a citizen of Barbados by birth or
naturalization;
b) you are enrolled as a full-time student at a recognized college or university in Canada, which is authorized by
law to grant degrees,
diplomas or certificates; and
c) on the date that you submitted your application for a BCF Scholarship, you were not more than 30 years of
age.
d) You are also eligible to apply for a BCF Scholarship if you were a previous recipient.
e) Consideration will be given to applicants for graduate studies at the Master's level only.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, you will not be eligible to be awarded a BCF Scholarship if any one of your parents or grandparents is or was a Director or Officer of Barbados Canada Foundation on the date that you submitted your application or at any time during the two (2) year period preceding that date.
The following criteria are applied in the selection of scholarship recipients. Each criterion is weighted relative to the order listed below.:
Scholarship recipients are selected by a panel comprised of three individuals who are not members of the board of directors of Barbados Canada Foundation, their decisions being subject to the board's approval.
Scholarship grants are paid directly to the university or college attended by the recipient.

Barbados Canadian Friendship Scholarship
In 2007 Barbados Ball Canada Aid established an endowment at York University to fund the Barbados Canadian Friendship Scholarship.. This scholarship is awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at York University who "demonstrates a clear and compelling passion for, and a history of working with, the Barbadian community or the Barbadian-Canadian community. Applicants must have a minimum admission average of 80%, and must demonstrate financial need. Recipients of this award must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons and Ontario residents."
The endowment fund now stands at $279,929 and a total of 15 scholarships valued at $71,250 have been awarded to date.
